monday?? how did that happen?

i want the weekend to never stop. oh wait, i have no job. it is pretty much like the weekend never stopping. and this is a 3 day week anywho. bring on the holiday weekend!

this was yet another in a long line of really good weekends.

mike had his fancy pants wrap party- which meant free food and booze until 11. it was actually a good time. and i even knew a good amount of people there.

it was at the lansky lounge- somewhere i have never been before. it wasn't that great (except for the AMAZING peirogies). but it was apparently a famous speak-easy back in the old days. so the entrance went through a basement type thing and you had to pick the right door to go into. that was fun. i was sure we were going to walk right into the kitchen or something. but mike had been there before so we didn't. whew!

there was one room that became a dark dance floor room at some point, and i had to walk through it to find mike to tell him we were leaving. and holy crap was i ever groped by strangers. a butt grab here, a butt grab there. more than one guy thought it was awesome to just start dancing with me, eventhough i was clearly not dancing. nothing like a stranger grinding on you.

i ended up talking to celene and gretchen and then gretchen pointed out that we were all "girlfriends". which meant that all three of us had funny boyfriends who were in the show. and we have all sorta recently moved in with them. it was weird. it was like talking to people who can read your mind. i guess having a funny boyfriend is pretty much the same experience for everyone. especially because none of us have normal schedules. celene and i discussed how breaking up is so much harder now- since it would be more like a divorce. the kinds of things you know- but feel bad saying to your boyfriend because then it sounds like all you do is think about breaking up. and then we discussed our out and out dislike for the ucb theater. it was nice to have someone who hates it as much as i do. and we were mean to this jerk who is very full of himself. mean ole matt besser. we let him know that he is not famous to us! i should hang out with them more.

then at like 1am a bunch of us decided to go get food. and everyone was a little tipsy but no one was drunk. i kept drinking juice at the party because i can't drink many real drinks and i thought "hey- they're free".

i used to be a super poor intern. i am still poor but not to that level. but i have retained the "oh my god, free food! must eat anything that is free!"mentality.

it is always interesting when my friends and mike's friends collide. never in a bad way. they collided when we got food on friday night though. and i was even more concerned because my friend ann went- and she is a casting director. and mike's friends went- and they are out of work actors. a scary combo. but it was fun. the best part was the very animated discussion of buffy the vampire slayer. jason tempted ann with SPOILERS of the next season. RACY! turns out there were a lot of fans at the table. who knew!

by this point it had technically been my birthday for a while.

mike not only wrapped my presents- but he then covered them in a towel and put them in a corner. when we got back i noticed he also covered the towel with a sheet. how thorough!

turns out he got me a rad new printer. it is really nice and simple and prints really fast. he got me accessories too. which i opened first. that kinda gave away the main gift, but it was cool anyway.

he didn't really give me a card. or he did, but all it said was "happy birthday" and nothing else. but i have come to either expect this, or no card at all from him. so it was okay.

we had a lazy day of soccer watching and naps and presents in bed. it was great.

then he took me out for rad indian food in a 100% indian/general middle eastern part of queens. it was sooooo good. he was very not smooth about arranging candles for the dessert. and then the waiter blew his surprise. it was funny, to me at least.

no singing or embarrassment which was awesome. restaurant birthday singing is bad news!

we got home pretty late and had to wake up at 6 am for the world cup final.

it was funny because the first person to call and say happy birthday was mike's mom. not my mom see. mike's . then my mom left a message. which was strange since she no longer talks to me and called me on my birthday, not a day when she wants something. a true first.

then no other calls, until late at night.

my dad left the best message ever. it went something like this "hello sarah.. ha ha ha ha ha (my sister is sarah) oops ha ha ha, i mean crystal. just calling to say "hi" and see how you are doing, and maybe also wish you a happy birthday but i dont know what day this is... is it the 29th or 30th? i dont know, but either i am right or a day off...." and then he trails into more explanation about how he does not know what day it is. so i called him back to which he said "(YAWNS) i am so sleepy (YAWN) i'll talk to you tomorrow- g'night"

which i can understand because soccer was on so damn early the next day.

woke up for soccer- it was a great final. mike even got into it a little. and decided to pick germany to win- maybe just to pick the underdog- but he also speaks german and has been there. germans lost- just as i predicted. abc's coverage was so damn lame. they just cut right to golf or something. they didn't even show the presentation of the world cup to brasil. lame. mike was like "is that it?" and then we went back to sleep.

then last night he made hush puppies as per my grandma's recipe and they were great. he has to make them again now.

the amount of time spent in bed this weekend vs. amount of time out of the house- was a perfect balance.

i give it * * * * four stars.
