March 25, 2002, 2:52 pm on january second i had to rush to the post office and rush off an application to grad school. this was january second two thousand two, just under four months post-september eleventh, and this is new york city. there were all those anthrax scares. it was everywhere. even though until today i had totally forgotton about all those scares. i guess with me it's outta sight, outta mind. but i digress.

i went to the post office to mail something priority and all the post office workers were wearing rubber gloves. undoubtedly a move to protect themselves from the anthrax. to me, this was scary. i don't like being afraid of mail. but then i noticed that the counter women had very long, ultra-sculpted fingernails that were all poking through the rubber gloves. in other words gashing holes through their protective layer. and then one was complaining that she just got her nails done- implying that she wanted to show them off and that the gloves were stifling her somehow.

this was right after all those mail room workers were testing positive for anthrax at an alarming rate...or so the news said.

well, these ladies weren't scared.

this ladies weren't scared at all.
