i was in the drugstore yesterday and they were blasting "shaft" through the pa system. and as i walked through the store it went to kool and the gang and al green. everyone else in the store was elderly whitebread, and some were lip synching along with the music. i was in mcdonalds this morning soaking up the air-conditioning and reading the village voice. and freedy johnston was playing, followed by cindi lauper, and then neil young. it was like listening to a tape i would make. eerie.
